The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) welcomes its first female Commodores (one-star general), DR. LUZ L ESCARRILLA and DR. FRAN F EDEN, after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved their promotion, together with six other Coast Guard officials on 15 February 2021.
Commodore Escarrilla and Commodore Eden took their oath to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur P. Tugade today, 26 February 2021.
The FIRST FEMALE COMMODORES IN PCG HISTORY are active frontliners amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Commodore Escarrilla heads the Task Force Quarantine Facility, while Commodore Eden is in charge of the Task Force RT-PCR.
Their professional background as licensed doctors allowed them to efficiently perform their responsibilities, specifically in managing hundreds of PCG medical officers deployed in critical areas, such as airports, ports terminals, and mobile testing sites, to conduct swab sample collection in an effort to uphold public health and safety amid the ongoing pandemic.
On top of their taskings at the frontline, Commodore Escarrilla is also designated as the Commander of the Coast Guard Civil Relations Service, while Commodore Eden is the Commander of the Coast Guard Medical Service.
