The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has welcomed a total of 128 new volunteers of the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) based in Southern Tagalog at Barangay Bagong Silang, Calatagan, Batangas on 01 March 2021.
PCG District Southern Tagalog Commander, Commodore Tito Alvin G Andal led the oath-taking and donning ceremonies of the PCGA inductees, including Calatagan Mayor, Peter Oliver M Palacio who is appointed to the rank of 'Captain'.
During his speech, Captain Palacio PCGA assured the continuous restoration of the Cape Santiago Lighthouse that guides mariners in the vicinity waters off the province and attracts local tourists in Calatagan.
Generally, PCGA volunteers support the PCG in the conduct of humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, as well as marine environmental protection initiatives.
