While on standby for relief transport mission, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel of BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) rescued three fishermen on board, MB THOMAS that capsized at the vicinity waters off Barangay Punta Bilar, Surigao Del Norte on 28 December 2021.

According to the boat captain, they encountered rough sea conditions and big waves that damaged the boat's hull, causing it to capsize. Immediately, he called his wife through his mobile phone to seek assistance to the nearest Coast Guard unit – the PCG Sub-Station Lipata.

The said sub-station coordinated with the PCG Station Surigao del Norte to establish communication with BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) for the conduct of search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The PCG safely rescued the three fishermen and provided first aid.

After ensuring that the rescued individuals were in good physical condition, BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) towed the distressed boat to Surigao Baseport in Surigao Del Norte.

PCG personnel reminded the fishermen to strictly follow maritime safety regulations and not venture into the sea during inclement weather to avoid similar accidents in the future.
