Under the directive of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. for the PCG to further intensify its coastal community engagement and awareness programs, a local fisherman promptly coordinated the incident with the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Bataan.Β

The concerned local fisherman disclosed that on 29 May 2025, while fishing in the waters of Zambales, he sighted nine sacks suspected of containing narcotics. Out of fear of possible reprisal, he secured the contraband aboard a cargo vessel last 2021 in Mariveles, Bataan.

A joint inspection team – composed of the CGS Bataan Quick Response Team, PCG K9 Unit Bataan, and PCG Intelligence personnel – was immediately deployed to the site.

During the inspection, Coast Guard K9 units positively indicated the presence of illegal drugs.Β

The CGS Bataan immediately coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Bataan that conducted an on-site assessment and confirmed that the recovered items were alleged illegal drugs.

As of press time, CGS Bataan personnel remain on-site to assist in the documentation, security, and turnover procedures.
