In line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr’s anti-illegal drugs campaign, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have collaborated in averting the entry of a vessel suspected to be loaded with a large volume of illegal drugs outside the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) closest to the coast of Mindoro yesterday, 23 February 2025.
Amid heavy weather and rough seas, the joint PCG-PDEA operatives ensured the denial of entry of the subject vessel within the Philippine territory.
PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, said the operation underscored not only the importance of international cooperation, but also the effectiveness of interagency collaboration.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the National Youth Commission (NYC), at the PCG – West Philippine Sea Transparency Office on 19 February 2025.
According to West Philippine Sea Transparency Group (WPS-TG), this partnership marks a major step forward in enhancing public awareness, countering misinformation, and involving the youth in maritime security initiatives. With PCG spearheading transparency efforts, PIA ensuring effective information dissemination, and NYC mobilizing young advocates, the collaboration is set to empower Filipinos with credible information and meaningful engagement in protecting the country’s waters.
"The challenges in the West Philippine Sea demand not just vigilance, but also transparency and national unity. This partnership strengthens agencies' commitment to ensuring that Filipinos - especially the youth - are informed, engaged, and ready to contribute to our maritime security," WPS-TG said.

The men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) extend their gratitude to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for approving the three-year fixed term of the PCG Commandant through the signing of Republic Act (RA) No. 12122, an Act Fixing the Term of Office of the PCG Commandant and for Other Purposes, amending Section 5 of RA No. 9993 or the PCG law on 18 February 2025.
Coastguardians overwhelmingly welcome this fitting recognition of the importance of continuity in ensuring the efficient implementation of plans, programs, and operations in line with the Coast Guard mandate.
The PCG is also extending their gratitude to Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, as well as to all senators and members of the House of Representatives for the passage of said law that will provide stability to the Coast Guard organization.
