The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified search efforts for a missing On-the-Job Trainee (OJT) from Motor Vessel (M/V) Trans-Asia 20, last seen at Calapan Port, Barangay San Antonio, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, since 03 March 2025.
The missing individual has been identified as Mr. Aivan R. Montalan, 20 years old, a resident of Barangay Panggulayan, Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro. He is a Tourism student at St. Mark Arts and Training Institute Inc., Barangay Camilmil, Calapan City, pursuing a maritime career.
According to the Shipboard Training Officer (STO) of M/V Trans-Asia 20, Mr. Montalan failed to report for duty during the muster at around 6:00AM on 04 March 2025 and was nowhere to be found onboard. His fellow OJTs last saw him around 8:00PM on 03 March 2025, lying on his bed after the vessel departed Batangas Port at 7:00PM. He was last observed at approximately 10:00PM while the vessel was maneuvering to dock at Calapan Port. By the following morning, he was missing during the roll call.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued five passengers of a fishing banca that encountered engine trouble in the vicinity waters off Barangay Butag, Bulan, Sorsogon, on 07 March 2025.
At around 4PM, FB Veni Vidi Veci encountered engine overheating while transiting said waters en route to Matnog Port.
Based on the investigation, this resulted in the loss of maneuverability, causing it to be drifted by big waves and strong current.
