The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued 14 individuals on board MBCA Ayoshi Kim Rin 8 in the vicinity waters between Balicasag Island and Panglao, Bohol, yesterday, 24 February 2025.
Upon receiving the information, the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Balicasag proceeded to the said location and rendered necessary assistance.
The Coast Guard rescue team safely transferred the 12 passengers, one boat captain, and one crew member of the distressed motorbanca to MBCA Nika and Niah Naj.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), through its Marine Science Group (MSG) joined the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP MSI) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR BMB) research project on the establishment of a baseline biodiversity data at the Kalayaan Island Group on 22 February 2025 and will run until 28 February 2025.
During the expedition, the PCG MSG immersed in various activities such as assessment of diversity and community structure of seaweeds, mollusks and other benthic invertebrates, documentation of the biodiversity, abundance and distribution of seagrasses on the reef flat of Pagasa Island and the conduct of mollusk surveys to better understand habitat interactions. This is also an opportunity to identify and map priority reef restoration sites for the PCG MSG.
The said activity was a prelude to upcoming series of activities of the PCG in its efforts of rehabilitating the coral reefs and other marine ecosystems of the West Philippine Sea that has faced degradation over the years.

In line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr’s anti-illegal drugs campaign, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have collaborated in averting the entry of a vessel suspected to be loaded with a large volume of illegal drugs outside the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) closest to the coast of Mindoro yesterday, 23 February 2025.
Amid heavy weather and rough seas, the joint PCG-PDEA operatives ensured the denial of entry of the subject vessel within the Philippine territory.
PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, said the operation underscored not only the importance of international cooperation, but also the effectiveness of interagency collaboration.
